On January 27, the National Bureau of Statistics of China released the profit figures for industrial enterprises above the designated size nationwide in 2025. The data shows that industrial enterprises above the designated size nationwide achieved a total profit of RMB 7.3982 trillion in 2025, an increase of 0.6% over the previous year (calculated on a comparable basis). Among them, the total profit and year-on-year growth rate of the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry ranked high among the 41 major industrial categories.
The data shows that, among the 41 major industrial categories, 25 industries saw a year-on-year increase in total profit, while 16 saw a decrease. Among them, the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry recorded business revenue of RMB 2.487 trillion, down 1.2% year on year; operating costs of RMB 1.43624 trillion, down 1.3% year on year; total profit of RMB 349.0 billion, ranking ninth among the 41 major industrial categories, which grew by 2.7% year on year, with the growth rate ranking 15th among the 41 major industrial categories.
The data also shows that, in 2025, industrial enterprises above the designated size achieved business revenue of RMB 139.20 trillion, up 1.1% over the previous year; incurred operating costs of RMB 118.75 trillion, up 1.3%; and the business revenue profit margin was 5.31%, down 0.03 percentage points from the previous year.
In 2025, among industrial enterprises above the designated size, state-holding enterprises achieved total profits of RMB 2.0561 trillion, down 3.9% over the previous year; shareholding enterprises achieved total profits of RMB 5.54083 trillion, down 0.1%; enterprises funded by foreign investors and investors from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan achieved total profits of RMB 1.74474 trillion, up 4.2%; and private enterprises achieved total profits of RMB 2.28106 trillion, unchanged from the previous year.
