On the afternoon of May 15, 2025, the Breaking Into the European Market - Workshop on Chinese Medical Technology Companies' Going Global, jointly held by the China Association for Medical Devices Industry (CAMDI) and Hogan Lovells International LLP (Hogan Lovells), concluded successfully at the Lujiazui International Accounting Center. The event brought together numerous representatives from medical technology enterprises, legal experts, and industry veterans to discuss the key challenges to Chinese enterprises' entry into the European market and the response strategies.
The workshop was chaired by Ms. Feng Zhen, Managing Partner of Hogan Lovells Shanghai Office, with Mr. Wu Yinglong, Director of CAMDI, specially invited to deliver a speech. In his speech, Director Wu encouraged enterprises to actively expand international cooperation and enhance global competitiveness to respond to industry transformation and market development more efficiently.
During the workshop, multiple experts from Hogan Lovells provided deep insights on core topics including the EU market's business environment, intellectual property, and regulatory requirements. The speakers included Feng Zhen (Managing Partner, Shanghai), Zhou Lu (Partner, Beijing), Miriam Gundt (Partner and Global Head of Intellectual Property, Germany), Stella Wong (Partner, UK), Gertjan Kuipers (Partner, Netherlands), and Xie Jiaqi (Consultant, Beijing). Combining practical cases, they shared in detail matters that Chinese medical device enterprises must pay attention to when doing business in Europe, practical experience in enterprises' overseas structure layout, key strategies in patent litigation, the profound impact of new European medical device regulations on corporate compliance, and how medical device enterprises can proactively review and comply with regulatory requirements faced when entering the EU market so that enterprises can formulate international market development strategies more precisely. Attendees engaged actively, exchanging questions and exploring industry development prospects. Notably, Frederick Ch'en, Managing Partner of Hogan Lovells Tokyo Office, also attended and briefly shared his insight on development trends for Chinese medical technology companies in the Japanese market, offering a broader international perspective across different jurisdictions.
During the free exchange session, participants actively shared their practical experiences and engaged in in-depth discussions with Hogan Lovells' experts. They not only gained regulatory interpretations and the latest information on market trends but also received valuable advice on strategies for addressing European market challenges.
This successful workshop deepened industry practitioners' understanding of the European market and provided practical enlightenment for the internationalization process of Chinese medical technology companies. Hogan Lovells will continue to monitor industry developments and provide professional legal support for enterprises, helping Chinese medical technology companies achieve greater breakthroughs and success in the global market.
