AI-based Medical Device and Medical Imaging Device Industry Innovation and Development Seminar Successfully Held in Beijing

On October 25, 2024, the “AI-based Medical Device and Medical Imaging Device Industry Innovation and Development Seminar” hosted by the China Association for Medical Devices Industry (CAMDI) was successfully held in Beijing. Responsible persons of relevant national departments, authoritative comrades from scientific research field and from medical institutions, and relevant enterprise representatives were invited to the meeting. They had an in-depth exchange of views centering on leading technologies, industry development and clinical application of artificial intelligence and medical imaging, fully introduced the development achievements, and put forward suggestions on further improving policies and promoting innovation and development. The seminar was presided over by Yang Xiaofang, Deputy Secretary General of CAMDI.

Jiang Deyuan, Senior Advisor of CAMDI, said in his address that health is an eternal theme in the development and progress of human society, while drugs and medical devices are an essential material base indispensable to people’s health. Medical device industry is highly valued by the Party and the government and receives extensive attention from the society for its significant public health, economic, scientific and technological attributes. Under the driving effect of a series of favorable policies, the medical device industry of China maintains a high growth rate, with main segments becoming the focus of innovation and development, including artificial intelligence and medical imaging. Significant progresses have been made in the combination of artificial intelligence and medicine, which has practically improved the efficiency of medical diagnosis and greatly relieved the burden of physicians; remarkable achievements have also been made in the research and application of cutting-edge medical imaging technologies. He also said that CAMDI, as a bridge between government, industry and sector, plays an important role that cannot be replaced; in the future, CAMDI will continue efforts to assist the government with policy implementation, promote industrial self-discipline, strengthen credit construction, improve professional quality, and drive industry innovation and high-quality development and so forth. Moreover, he expressed his wish that relevant governmental departments and all related parties of the industry continue to care about and support the work of CAMDI and jointly promote the high-quality development of medical device industry in China.

Zhou Shaohua, Professor at the University of Technology and Science of China and Founding Executive Dean of the School of Biomedical Engineering, shared the characteristics and technologies of the common basic AI model for medical imaging, and elaborated on current difficulties and challenges about the model and the development trends to cover more modalities, incorporate more data and undertake more tasks.
